Internship Opportunities

Internships at Agard Research Associates provide students and early-career professionals with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research, policy analysis, communications, and organizational management. Our internship program bridges academic learning with real-world application, allowing participants to contribute directly to projects that advance accessible, evidence-based scholarship. Interns develop professional skills while supporting work with meaningful impact across education, policy, and public engagement.

Interns work alongside leadership and research staff in areas such as policy analysis, communications, digital content management, nonprofit operations, and publication support. Depending on academic background and professional interests, interns may assist with preparing research briefs, managing outreach initiatives, organizing data, or supporting the development of reports and public materials. Responsibilities are assigned based on demonstrated interests, skills, and organizational needs to ensure a productive and educational experience.

Internship appointments may be part-time or full-time and vary in duration depending on academic schedules or organizational capacity. Remote and hybrid options are available for certain positions. Interns receive access to the organization's Microsoft 365 environment to support collaboration and participation in assigned projects. All internal accounts are the property of Agard Research Associates and must be used in accordance with established data protection and communication policies.

While internships are unpaid, they offer valuable professional development and the opportunity to build experience in nonprofit research administration, policy engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants gain exposure to the operations of a mission-driven research organization while contributing to work that serves professionals, institutions, and the public. Interns may request a completion letter or reference upon successful conclusion of their appointment.

Policy Research Intern

The Policy Research Intern contributes to the development of policy briefs, research reports, and analytical publications under the supervision of research staff. This position provides hands-on experience in policy analysis, literature review, and evidence-based research methods. Interns gain exposure to interdisciplinary research processes while supporting projects aligned with the organization's mission of advancing accessible scholarship for professionals, policymakers, and the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews and source gathering on assigned policy topics

  • Summarize and synthesize academic articles, government reports, and policy documents

  • Assist with drafting sections of policy briefs and research reports

  • Support fact-checking and source verification for publications

  • Organize and format reference materials and bibliographies

  • Participate in research team meetings and project discussions

This position offers experience in data management, analysis, and the application of quantitative methods to policy and institutional research. Interns contribute to projects that translate data into accessible findings for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and organize data from surveys, reports, and external sources

  • Clean, format, and prepare datasets for analysis

  • Assist with basic statistical analysis and data interpretation

  • Create visualizations, charts, and summary tables for reports and publications

  • Support documentation of data sources and methodological processes

  • Maintain organized digital files and data archives

Qualifications:

  • Current student or recent graduate in data science, statistics, social sciences, or related field

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing educational content, guides, and workshop materials

  • Support planning and coordination of webinars, presentations, and outreach events

  • Help create resources that communicate research findings to diverse audiences

  • Assist with outreach efforts to schools, community organizations, and professional groups

  • Compile feedback and evaluation data from educational programs

  • Collaborate with staff on strategies to expand community engagement

Qualifications:

  • Current student or recent graduate in education, communications, public policy, or related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
