Shruthi Nandakumar is a graduate of Rutgers University New Brunswick in the School of Arts and Sciences. She has majored in Cell Biology and Neuroscience alongside a minor in Religion, reflecting her multidisciplinary foundations and research interests.

Her professional experience is rooted in clinical healthcare settings. As an Ophthalmic Technician, Shruthi has conducted patient intake via Nextech EMR as well as thorough medical assessments, performed advanced ophthalmic imaging including B-scan, UBM, and OCT, and assisted physicians during medical procedures. Previously, she worked as a Medical Scribe and Assistant at CityMD, where she supported physicians in a high-volume urgent care environment. Her responsibilities included rooming patients, obtaining and documenting medical histories, managing EHR documentation through Athena EMR, performing diagnostic tests such as EKGs and urinalysis, assisting with lab procedures, coordinating diagnostic imaging and specialist referrals, and ensuring efficient patient flow during extended shifts.

In addition to her clinical work, Shruthi has experience in education and digital evaluation. She served as a Beta Tester for WGU Biology courses through Hurix, where she evaluated exam questions prior to launch, reviewed platform quality and effectiveness, and documented technical issues. She also participated in usability and functionality testing for the DAZN iOS app through Testbirds. Earlier in her career, she worked as a self-employed piano teacher, developing customized lesson plans and teaching beginner students over several years.

At Rutgers, Shruthi has been actively involved with APSEA, serving on the Digital Media Committee as a Webmaster, where she managed social media accounts and created engagement-focused content. She also contributed to internal event planning and participated in community health activities such as assessing blood pressure, blood glucose, heart rate, blood oxygen concentration, and BMI. She also educated the community based on personalized health results and provided guidance on diet and exercise recommendations under clinical supervision. Her interest in science communication and writing led her to volunteer as a journalist for The Examiner, a pre-health journal, where she contributed written pieces during her tenure.

In her free time, Shruthi is a passionate club rugby player, guitarist, and pianist with a wide repertoire. She is also an avid competitive tennis player.

Through her academic training and hands-on experience across healthcare, education, and digital platforms, Shruthi brings a multidisciplinary perspective grounded in clinical practice, scientific inquiry, and communication. Shruthi looks forward to gaining more research experience and pursuing these interests to a professional standard.
