Who We Are

Agard Research Associates, Inc. is an independent, nonpartisan research institute producing rigorous scholarship and policy analysis on the institutions that shape American working life. Our work joins contemporary policy research with the depth of perspective that historical and humanistic scholarship provide, and addresses questions ranging from workplace conditions and employment law to the institutional design of public and private organizations.

We believe the hardest questions in institutional and labor policy are best addressed when systematic evidence and comparative analysis are grounded in a clear understanding of how similar decisions and institutions have unfolded in the past. Our work is organized around three areas: scholarly research and policy analysis on workplaces and the institutions that govern them, public-facing programs that bring this work to practitioners, students, and engaged communities, and direct services and partnerships that translate research into resources for the populations our mission is built to serve.

What We Do

We produce working papers, scholarly articles, and analytical studies on institutional design, organizational behavior, and the conditions that shape quality of life in private and public workplaces. Our research draws on the methods of the social and behavioral sciences and the interpretive traditions of the humanities, with manuscripts submitted to scholarly journals for peer review and findings made publicly available through the institute's publications. Current research engages questions of workplace conditions, employment law, institutional design, and the historical development of American working life.

We publish briefs and analyses on contemporary issues at the state and federal levels, with particular focus on employment law, workers' rights, women's rights, labor standards, and the institutional questions that shape American working life. Our policy work integrates historical precedent, empirical research, and institutional analysis to inform public discourse and to support responsible policy development, evaluation, and implementation. This work is written for decision-makers, practitioners, and engaged readers who want to move past headlines and understand the structural forces shaping outcomes.

We design and deliver workshops and professional development curricula for workplaces and institutions on workplace culture, ethical management, organizational design, employee well-being, and the structural conditions of a healthy professional environment. These programs translate the institute's research into practical training for organizations seeking to build culturally competent and humanely structured working environments.

We develop presentations, projects, and classroom activities for K-12 students that align with New Jersey curriculum standards and the institute's broader mission. Anchored in the humanities, this programming introduces students to civic institutions, public service, ethical reasoning, and the historical foundations of American working life, with a dedicated educational track devoted to veterans and military service.

We compile, recommend, and partner on resources for behavioral health and trauma support, with a primary focus on veterans and active-duty United States military personnel. The institute pursues formal partnerships with established providers and advocacy organizations to ensure that those directed to support are met with credible, sustained, and trauma-informed care.

We support individuals navigating the labor market through research-informed guidance, partnership networks, and direct assistance. Priority is extended to veterans, members of underserved communities, and minority populations. This work translates the institute's research into practical resources for individuals working to secure meaningful employment with dignity, clarity, and effectiveness.

Why Our Work Matters

Decisions about workplaces, institutions, and the laws that govern them carry consequences that unfold over decades, yet the analysis shaping them is often disconnected from the historical perspective and systematic evidence that make sound judgment possible. By joining rigorous policy research with the depth that historical and humanistic scholarship provide, Agard Research Associates, Inc. produces the kind of analysis that serves responsible decision-making in government, in private and public organizations, and in the public debate that informs both. Our work is grounded in the conviction that the institutions Americans depend on, including those that shape working life, civic participation, and the welfare of those who have served, are worth studying with seriousness and reforming with care.

Engage With Our Work

Whether you are a policymaker, practitioner, scholar, educator, or engaged reader, the institute's work is written and delivered to be useful. Working papers, policy briefs, and analytical studies are available to read and download. Workshops and professional development programs are open to organizations seeking to strengthen workplace culture and institutional design. K-12 educational programming is available to New Jersey schools and educators. We welcome inquiries from institutions interested in our research, from journalists and producers seeking informed commentary, from organizations seeking partnerships in employment assistance or behavioral health and trauma support, and from students and early-career scholars interested in the institute's areas of focus.
